Safety and warnings
Lemon balm oil is non-toxic but may cause skin irritation in individuals with sensitive skin. It is recommended to use it in low concentrations (up to 0.9%) for topical applications, such as in massages or aromatherapy baths. Do not use on children under 2 years of age. During pregnancy, it is recommended to limit the concentration to a maximum of 0.5% (based on the publication Essential Oil Safety – Tisserand & Young, 2nd ed.) due to the citral content, which in high doses may affect fetal development. When used internally (e.g., as a supplement), it may interfere with the action of diabetes medications. In such cases, consultation with a doctor or aromatherapist is necessary.
