Palmarosa is one of the richest natural sources of geraniol (70.58%) – a compound with confirmed regenerating and antimicrobial properties. It combines the skin care profile of rose with the lightness of fresh, green grass. Palmarosa captivates with a soft, rosy aroma and is a natural alternative to rose or geranium.

Additional Information: Motia vs. Sofia Variety
Palmarosa essential oil (Cymbopogon martinii var. motia) comes from one of two main varieties of palmarosa. Compared to the sofia variety, the motia version stands out for:
- More intense, rosy aroma – resembling the scent of rose oil (Rosa damascena)
- Higher geraniol content – which gives it stronger antibacterial, regenerating, and moisturizing properties
- Application in skin care and emotional balance – ideal for supporting dry, irritated, and mature skin
- Cultivation in India, Nepal, and the Comoros Islands, where it grows on sunny, mountainous terrains
Cymbopogon martinii var. motia is a more rosy and intense variety, hence it is more often used in skin care and relaxing aromatherapy. Cymbopogon martinii var. sofia is lighter and more citrusy, more often used in refreshing and protective blends.
