Analysis of the composition of each batch

Cinnamon leaf essential oil is an intense, warm, and distinctly spicy oil with a eugenol-rich profile. In aromatherapy, it is considered a strong, warming, and purifying oil, used primarily as an accent in seasonal blends, diffusion compositions, and natural preparations for scenting and freshening spaces.

Cinnamon Leaf (Cinnamomum verum) Organic Essential Oil

Certified organic cinnamon leaf oil from Sri Lanka – eugenol 79.80%

Cinnamon leaf essential oil differs from cinnamon bark oil. It is not dominated by cinnamaldehyde, but by eugenol, which in this batch constitutes as much as 79.80% of the composition. Therapeutically, this gives it a hot, stimulating, antiseptic character, strongly warming and intense.

Eugenol is responsible for the intense, spicy character of the oil, its distinct warming and purifying effect in aromatherapy. The slight presence of trans-cinnamaldehyde emphasizes the cinnamon accent, but does not dominate the profile as it does in bark oil. Cinnamon leaf oil is chemically completely different from cinnamon bark oil. The leaf usually has a more eugenol profile, and the bark a more cinnamaldehyde profile.

This is a very concentrated and aromatically active oil. Even a small amount can add warmth, depth, and a spicy character to a blend. Due to its high eugenol content, this oil is not for daily topical use or for use without conscious dilution.

Application

Purification – Natural microbial reduction
Cinnamon leaf oil can be used in trace amounts in a diffuser, especially in autumn-winter blends. It works well where we want a warming effect, spicy depth, and refreshing of the atmosphere.

It is best not to use it alone, but as an accent, for example, with orange, lemon, frankincense, cedar, ginger, or cardamom.

Soothing — tense and sensitive areas
Dilute cinnamon leaf oil in a nourishing carrier oil to create a warming care blend for areas perceived as cool, tense, or tender.

Natural cleaning agents — component of utility compositions
Due to its intense eugenol profile, cinnamon leaf oil can be used as an ingredient in natural fragrance blends for homemade cleaning products. It gives them a warm, spicy aroma and a distinct purifying character.

However, it should be remembered that this is a very potent oil – in such applications, it should also be used in small quantities.

Shelf life and safety

Shelf life: 5 years

Safety and warnings:

  • Cinnamon leaf essential oil contains a high amount of eugenol – a compound belonging to phenols. Phenols are considered some of the most irritating ingredients for the skin and mucous membranes; they can cause contact dermatitis and allergic reactions.
  • If phenols are present in an essential oil in high concentration, such oil should only be used on the skin in very low dilutions — 0.5% or less in a carrier oil — and only for a short time. Oils rich in phenols are generally not safe for topical use in baths. Caution should also be exercised during diffusion or when using an inhaler.
  • Oils with a high phenol content should not be used on infants and children. They should not be applied directly to the skin undiluted. "Essential Oil Safety" by Robert Tisserand and Rodney Young, second edition, states that eugenol-rich oils should be used with caution in people with impaired liver function. Eugenol-rich oils should not be used by people with blood clotting disorders, as eugenol has anticoagulant properties.
  • High-risk oil when used improperly, for people aware of essential oil chemistry.

Important warnings for cinnamon oil

  • do not use undiluted on the skin,
  • use only in very low concentration,
  • avoid in children,
  • avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding,
  • use cautiously on sensitive and allergic skin,
  • use cautiously with asthma and respiratory hyperreactivity,
  • do not use near animals,
  • in diffusion, use as a very small accent in compositions.

Blends for Ceylon cinnamon leaf oil

Orange, tangerine, lemon, bergamot – Citrus brightens the heavier, spicy profile of cinnamon and gives the blend a more joyful, energetic character. These are good combinations for autumn-winter diffusion.

Frankincense, myrrh, benzoin, copaiba – Add depth, softness, and a more contemplative character to the composition. They balance the sharpness of eugenol well.

Atlas cedar, Himalayan cedar, sandalwood, vetiver – Create warm, stable, deep, and more elegant compositions with cinnamon. They work well in blends for evening diffusion, but with a very small amount of cinnamon.

Lavender, geranium, ylang ylang – Soften the spicy intensity and give the blend a more harmonious, soft character. Geranium, in particular, combines well with warm spices.

Spicy – cautiously: ginger, cardamom, clove, nutmeg – These can be combined with cinnamon leaf, but in minimal quantities. Spicy combinations are very intense and can easily become too irritating in diffusion or too "hot" in perception.

Quality assurance – GC/MS and GC/FID tests

Vessel essential oils are tested using GC/MS and GC/FID methods, which confirms their authenticity, purity, and compliance with the natural plant profile.

The analysis uses gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS) in SCAN mode to precisely identify each component. Quantitative composition is determined by the GC/FID method. This ensures that we offer only natural oils, without synthetic additives – ideal for professional aromatherapy applications.
