Ginger rhizome essential oil with a warm, earthy, spicy, and woody profile, with a slightly dry, "dusty" nuance and a fresh, resinous, slightly lemony top note. A mobilising, warming, and courage-inducing oil, more "come on, let's get to work" than "sit back and relax." It can work very well in compositions for apathy, mental fatigue, lack of energy, and feelings of emotional coldness. It blends beautifully with cardamom – fresh, eucalyptus-spicy – and coriander seed, which is softer, sweeter, and warm-spicy.

Organic ginger essential oil has a warm, earthy, spicy, and woody aroma with a subtly dry, dusty nuance. It does not resemble the sharp, juicy aroma of a freshly cut rhizome – it is drier, deeper, and woodier, with the characteristic warmth of ginger. 

The oil is obtained by steam distillation from Zingiber officinale rhizomes from certified organic cultivation. The chemical profile of this batch is distinctly sesquiterpene. The dominant component is zingiberene – 28.50%, accompanied by α-curcumene 9.90%, camphene 9.70%, β-bisabolene 4.80%, and β-sesquiphellandrene 3.40%. Neral and geranial combined are at 4.30%, bringing a fresher, slightly citrusy accent, but not overpowering the character of the composition.

In aromatherapy, ginger is among the warming, stimulating, and mobilising oils. Its character works well when energy for action, concentration, and a feeling of inner warmth are needed. It is also traditionally used in blends to support digestive comfort and in massage oils after exertion and for muscle tension.

Zingiberene and sesquiterpene fraction

The most important component of this batch is zingiberene – 28.50%. This is one of the most characteristic compounds of ginger rhizome oil and an essential part of its chemical "signature". Together with α-curcumene, β-bisabolene, β-sesquiphellandrene, and β-elemene, it forms an extensive sesquiterpene fraction, responsible for its deeper, warmer, woody-spicy, and slightly earthy character.

Camphene and α-pinene

Camphene 9.70% and α-pinene 3.50% form a fresher monoterpene fraction. They introduce a light resinousness and greater aromatic clarity to the oil, preventing the heavier, earthy notes of zingiberene and other sesquiterpenes from becoming overwhelming.

Camphene is particularly significant in this batch – almost 10% content means that beneath the earthy-woody character of ginger, a fresher, slightly balsamic layer is also detectable.

Neral and geranial

Neral 3.10% and geranial 1.20% together form 4.30% citral. This is enough to give the aroma a delicate lemony freshness, but definitely too little for the oil to become citrusy or sharply citral.

Application

Digestive Comfort

Add ginger oil to a personal inhaler or use in diffusion in compositions with cardamom, coriander seed, mint, or citrus fruits. In aromatherapy, ginger is traditionally valued in blends to support digestive comfort and well-being after a heavy meal.

Warming Massage – after exertion and tension

Combine with a carrier oil and use for massaging tired muscles. It blends well with black pepper, cardamom, marjoram, lavender, or coniferous oils. For daily body massage, a dilution of about 1–2% will usually be appropriate.

Energy, Concentration, and Mobilisation

Add a few drops to a diffuser in combination with lime, bergamot, lemon, cardamom, or coriander. The warm, spicy aroma helps create an atmosphere conducive to activity, concentration, and emerging from mental sluggishness.

Ginger vs. Plai – two different oils from the ginger family

Although classic ginger (Zingiber officinale) and Thai Plai (Zingiber cassumunar) belong to the same botanical family and both oils are obtained from rhizomes, their chemical and aromatic profiles are distinctly different.

Madagascar ginger oil is dominated by zingiberene – 28.50% and other sesquiterpenes. When you need energy, courage, warmth, stimulation, and to "get going." Also very good for compositions related to digestive comfort.

Thai Plai has a completely different structure – in our batch, sabinene constitutes as much as 51.72%. Much more specialised in the direction of massage, muscle tension, and fatigue. In aromatherapy, Plai is particularly associated with use in massage and compositions intended for the musculoskeletal system; there are also studies on preparations containing Plai in this context.
