Combinations for New Caledonian Sandalwood Oil

Sandalwood oil (Santalum austrocaledonicum) is an excellent base note that:

  • preserves fragrance compositions
  • enhances the effects of other essential oils
  • adds depth and softness to compositions

Combines well with:

  • citrus oils: bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit
  • floral: rose, jasmine, neroli
  • earthy: patchouli, vetiver
  • woody: cedar, frankincense (olibanum)
  • resinous: myrrh, benzoin
  • herbal: lavender, nutmeg sage

Perfect for natural perfume compositions, massage blends and diffusers.

Due to its naturally high viscosity, the oil may flow more slowly through the dropper. If necessary, we recommend gently tilting the bottle or using a glass pipette for precise dosing.

Worth knowing:

  • Santalum album – Indian white sandalwood – is a more "classic" and exclusive sandalwood, with an exceptionally creamy aroma. This premium version of the oil is offered by Aromatics International – interested in purchasing? – please contact me. Santalol content (total): 70–90%.
  • Santalum austrocaledonicum – New Caledonian sandalwood – is a great alternative from our store – still high in santalol, more affordable, and with a slightly fresher and more "green" scent profile. Considered a high-quality substitute for S. album. Santalol content (total): approximately 70%.
  • Santalum spicatum – Western Australian – is an eco-friendly and budget-friendly option , with a slightly simpler scent – dry and savory. More technical, utilitarian – less emotional. Santalol content (total): approx. 30–40%.
