German Chamomile Hydrosol (Matricaria recutita) Organic

Certified organic German chamomile hydrosol is produced through steam distillation from white-yellow flowers sourced from organic farms in the USA. This aromatic water has an exceptionally mild, sweet, herbal, and fresh fragrance profile. Known for its soothing, calming, and regenerative properties, it provides natural support for sensitive, reactive, and irritated skin. Distillation, conducted for the hydrosol (not as a side effect of the oil), produces a pure, stable profile. The water used for distillation is crystal-clear mountain spring water.

Artisanal product, not manufactured on an industrial scale. Limited quantities.

This is a very solid, first-choice, "soothing" hydrolate. It boasts consistent batch quality (well-controlled cultivation, USDA Organic) and a consistent water-soluble fraction, which is noticeable in its effects – it's "soft" and quickly soothes redness and stinging. The hydrolate supports the skin's natural repair processes, soothing redness, itching, and dryness. It's an ideal choice for couperose, mature, and allergy-prone skin.

Aromatics International distills specifically for hydrosol, using longer distillation times, fresh plant material and copper stills, ensuring:

  • higher concentration of active water-soluble compounds,
  • better therapeutic properties,
  • more stable scent.

Using a hydrolate alongside an oil provides a full spectrum of benefits – both the oil and water fractions of the plant.

Application
Soothes irritations – Quick skin comfort in emergency situations.

Acne-prone skin – Calms when the skin “reacts.”
Spray on blemish-prone skin throughout the day to maintain comfort and balance. It also works well as a gentle toner after cleansing.
Sensitive skin care – Cooling compress for redness .
Make a cold hydrolate compress on irritated, reddened skin and leave for 5–10 minutes. Perfect after sun exposure, shaving, or treatments.

What does German chamomile hydrolate actually “carry”?
Hydrolates (i.e. distilled water) do not contain azulene or bisabolol – these are lipophilic compounds that remain in the essential oil.
The hydrolate mainly contains:
phenolic acids (e.g. chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid),
flavonoids in the form of glycosides,
traces of volatile alcohols and esters,
i.e. water-soluble substances that have soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, but act more gently than oil.

Durability and safety
Shelf life: 24 months
Safety and warnings:
No known contraindications. Store in a cool place and away from light.

Hydrolates and essential oils – what is the difference?
Simply put, a hydrosol is water-based, while an essential oil is fatty. A hydrosol contains the plant's hydrophilic (water-loving) components, while an essential oil contains lipophilic (fat-loving) molecules.
The oil content in the hydrolate is trace, too small for the oil to separate or float to the surface (therefore, the hydrolate does not need to be shaken before use).

Hydrosols are sourced from fresh, certified organic plants, steam-distilled in traditional copper stills. Each one is created intentionally – specifically for the hydrosol, not as a byproduct of essential oil distillation.

People with sensitive skin particularly appreciate their gentleness and soothing effect. Hydrosols are also safe for children and pets – although in aromatherapy for animals, we always allow them to choose whether they want to be exposed to the fragrance. People with sensitive skin particularly appreciate their gentleness and soothing effect.
